Taken From Www.RuneScape.Com:
In recent months, we have been looking more and more at how wealth and objects move around the game. Our first update of the month, the Assist System, will continue in a similar vein, and owes a lot to your reports and suggestions. You told us that you wanted a system for offering services to others without actually transferring items. So, with the Assist System, we will bring you that ability. You will, for example, get a high-level crafter to cut your gems for you with no gems ever leaving your inventory! This system will be useful across a multitude of different skills and will be very easy to get to grips with.
The popular 'Make-X' option makes its way to the Smithing skill this month, so a blacksmith will be able to happily hammer away at an entire inventory of bars without multiple clicks.
This month also sees the release of the penultimate cave goblin quest. Ever since Zanik emerged from the mines below Lumbridge she has been faced with troubles very much of the H.A.M. variety. A different challenge faces her in this quest, which will require stealth and subterfuge to complete, taking you to places that have never been seen by human eyes, including some that have only been noted in goblin fable. Will a discovery of monumental proportions help bring the goblin tribes together? Only time will tell. Listen well and show your true knowledge to find a path to the Land of the Goblins.
As a result of numerous suggestions, we will also be making some changes to the skills interface. For one, we will be adding a 'How much xp till my next level?' statistic to each skill, so that you know just how close you are to achieving your goals!
Also this month, we will be introducing some fantastic changes to the Duel Arena. We have drawn information from a recent poll, various suggestions from players, forum posts and general feedback to create some improvements. There was overwhelming support for tournaments, so we will offer enough room for 64 players and large prizes. You wanted more options on the Hiscores table, well, soon you will be able to track your Tournament Rank, which will reflect your Duel Arena awesomeness!
Later in the month, we bring you the 'Grand Exchange'. This new building will be located in the north-west of Varrock and will house a huge new addition to the game: the ability to offer items to buy and sell across ALL servers and to ALL players! You might, for example, go to the Exchange and put a full Barrows set up for sale - then, playing Skullball in Canifis, you might get a message telling you that they have sold and that you can go to the nearest bank to receive payment! The Grand Exchange will allow you to spend more time on the things you enjoy, providing a less time-consuming alternative to selling your items on the Forums or amongst the crowds of Varrock Marketplace.
Add a Guaranteed Content poll, Players' Gallery, Postbag and a Development Diary, and you have a month to remember.
We couldn't part from you without mentioning something very, very big on the horizon. The new year brings a stunning new update, and we are so happy with it that we are going to let a few hints trickle out over the next few weeks...

Finally make-x for smithers, I used to make lots of bolts (3 interfaces per load) and always got me tired after minutes.
We discussed about costumized player trades a few ago, and we doubt it could works. Maybe jagex have an idea, until day release then.

The only thing I fear about the "Grand Exchange" is that jagex might make it cost to put an item up for sale, but if not then in theory wouldn't this get rid of the w2 hassle AND offer a greater selection?

Mm their might be a downside nopenoname as if they do make it free or without some kind of cost the forums would be ruined as well so i'm pretty sure their has to be a cost or some kind of payment.

Another aution system (gaia marketplace for example) had problems because users at set-up prices made the items grow up (like 3000% on items that you don't get on stores but you get purchasing them with real money)
They fixed it charging a 2% to every item. If you want to sell something at 100k you need give to the market system 2k. I still doubt if it will work for jagex (we have two historical hits to economy - duplicated items and massacre day -) and I hope jagex think it carefully.
At 2002-2003 jagex said about a surprise that jagex had to runescape players and gave some hints. It was the release of runescape 2. Maybe jagex will make a new runescape (or a new multiplayer game compatible with rs -not sure)

Looks like an interesting month. I see problems, and I see some new (fun) stuff to try. ...This game seems more and more like WoW every month... But hey, learn from what works. And with these 'hints,' I say it's going to be the typical Jagex, "ZOMG THIS WILL BE LIEK AMAZZING!" and turn out to be just some almost-useful update. Just my thoughts.

Though I thought this highly unlikely at first it is in fact extremely possible. I'm sure it's not a Runescape 3 - RS2 isn't even that old, and they're already making so many changes to it. However, I suppose there's a chance they made a new game; they have a patent or something for a game or the name or something "MechScape", which I'd guess is a modern Runescape. I dunno.
QUOTE And with these 'hints,' I say it's going to be the typical Jagex, "ZOMG THIS WILL BE LIEK AMAZZING!" and turn out to be just some almost-useful update.
While time has proven that Jagex can make a huge hype about something and let it be a total let down, on the really big things they do seem to stay true and tell us something is going down and it does. Think about the God Wars Dungeon, and some of the bigger quests. This isn't true for skills, however; they either don't tell us anything at all that would make us think it's a skill, or they let us know a new skill is coming.
Thus, I think it's safe to say it's not a quest or mini-game or skill - what they said just doesn't work for it. The only way it could be a quest would be if it was a part of what I feel sure one day Jagex will create: a quest series involving a second God War. Regardless I'd say it's safe to say that it will be something huge. However, note the way it's worded:
QUOTE We couldn't part from you without mentioning something very, very big on the horizon. The new year brings a stunning new update, and we are so happy with it that we are going to let a few hints trickle out over the next few weeks...
Technically they didn't even mention Runescape (except 'stunning new update'), so the idea of another game of Jagex is still entirely plausible; but more likely will be some massive RS update, though I can't think of anything big enough.

Assist System: This will be a good update. It's pretty much just a way to stop scamming. It will also let a lot more players use the services of others that, without the assist system, they would not bother trusting players. It will allow for lower level players to easily get their materials made into items, 100% guaranteed. You can get anyone to make you items without having to trust that they won't scam you.
New Quest: It sounds like an alright quest, goblins are somewhat cool.
Updated Duel Arena: This will be a very nice update. The dueling arena was overdue for an addition. I'm looking forward to some future tournaments.
Grand Exchance: I'm excited for this update. This will be one of the best updates in a long time for me. Jagex better not screw it up somehow.
Misc Updates: We already knew that smith x was coming, no big surprise there. I could really care less about it. Changes with the skill interfaces will be nice. They did a good job when they updated all the interfaces. I'm not going to get too hyped about this "stunning new update." I personally think it will be something pretty big, but I don't know what.
This sounds like an awesome month for Runescape. Jagex has been releasing some good content lately and they're keeping up with it. I can't remember the last time such a large amount of good updates were released one after another. Maybe Jagex wants to have a better chance to compete with WoW for the most played MMORPG.

If its a new skill how it will look on the skill interface? will be deleted the total level square for add a skill with ingame guide (in case they add a new skill)?
Could be better they let us select what skills we want to show up and which ones not? I always get worried by minor things lol.
MechScape sound interesting, if you have a link for more info please share it. Oh, and about what update it could be I have an idea:
RS 3 release (Apr 1, 2008*)
- 100% compatible with RS2 - 1024x768 resolution (max) - Free download (601MB) - Better graphics than WOW - The items more realistic - Free/Member can play! - Sun, Clouds, Bright Sky - The ducks can also fly! - World peace (no bots)

They also mentioned a change to the skill interface, which to me hints at a new skill, and "summoning" has been long awaited and talked about. Also some quests hint to summoning/necromancy like swan song with the bone seeds, so thats entirely plausible as well.
