We, RuneWeb Events regret to inform you that, due to unforeseen problems and circumstances, we will not be hosting a Barbarian assault trip. We have also decided that henceforth, due to lack of activity and participation at previous events, that future events be limited to once per month.

If you have any questions, go ahead and discuss below.

I take it if attendance picks up the event frequency will too then...?

Also, what kind of advertising does RuneWeb do aside fro stat/goal signatures that can be used on other forums? It's just that in my time at Tip.It, I viewed RuneWeb as more of a place to get a sig than a fan site with forums and events that might be worth checking out, and I doubt I'm the only one.

To make matters worse, the larger fan sites get their share of ingame advertisement (despite the fact it's against the rules). So when people join their first fan site chances are it's going to be one of the larger ones.

I would suggest an ad exchange program with other fan sites, but just about every other fan site I've been to either has an ad provider that displayes ads for cheating/real world trading sites, provides dynamic signatures that are still updated automatically, or blatantly refuse to block/remove illegal content from their forums if they consider it to be too "minor".

Anyways, maybe if RW had more ways to advertise to people without breaking Jagex's rules...

As much as I hate to say it, Makoto is right. There really is no point trying to hold events when nobody attends them.

Of course if we had more advertising, we would have more activity and participation in events, but that's not my department so I won't say anymore.

aww this blows, i always try to make it to the events, but ur right no one shows up. I have no idea why, some of the events are really fun.

Why cant we hold events where we dont need many poeple like fishing trawlery, pc, cw's, minigames that have worlds with lots of poeple in it so it doesent matter if lots of rh poeple show up.

FISHING TRAWLERY EVENT WAS SOOOO MUCH FUN, too bad i had to leave early =(

well when u think about it most the events are on saturday wtich while most the time helps also herts alot most poeple have a sporting event on that day. but still yeah mabey if u cut back the event will become more meaning full bc there not as often people may kinda look at them as like a holiday or like idk something that only happens every so often. but anyway looking forward to next events when ever it is...."if"..

also i think that some of runewebs active member dont play rs any more makeing it harder to have a sell out crowd to something like kq hunt or cw's ect. and most the people come simpley for the word "free" hint why the drop party are crowed but i'm sure a smart event time like this would have gussed that wink.gif

also madshodow and dilbert i do agree web hasnt gotten it's name out there as much as other site have but i gusee it playing it "by the rules" with it lack of in game advertising. but if u w8 long enough runeweb will get mroe and more people..i hope at lest.. but yes runeweb dosnt get it's name out there.

I think we should have a weekly event of "pass the list" and "take the screenshot" and then leave, but the people that want wait the other people can wait until they arrive.

It could be on places like people usually train. Look "Specialized Worlds" topic (on rs chat) for some ideas.

Yes, if and when attendance picks up at the events, the frequency will be back to the once a week schedule. I won't count drop parties since that's when we usually go all-out and drop some serious stuff - and by that time, everyone and their grandmother's kitten is at a staff member's house, many people which we've never seen before...

As for our advertising, yeah, you hit the nail on the head on this one. At the current moment, the only thing we have going for us is the signatures. That is our only (legal) source of advertising, and it's probably the only one that's effective. I recall a drop party event in which we attempted to advertise our site, similar to the way that RuneHQ, Zybez/RSC and Tip.It have been historically. Turns out, I got a 3 day ban and most of the fansite names have been censored. In my opinion, that's no way to show any sort of affection to the fansites that have made RuneScape that much more tolerable. sad.gif

I for one have never advocated or given thought to advertisements throughout the Google AdSense network to get RuneWeb's name out there, nor have I thought about putting advertisements on the site (since technically that's not my decision), for three reasons:

1. It might give us that "guilty-by-association" persona - you see our name next to those cheating and gold buying sites, you automatically assume we are that;
2. It would cost money we simply don't have;
3. I don't feel that in many cases banner ads would do more good than harm for our fansite.

I realize that some of these things might be a bit cliché, but we're stuck in a situation which is neither pleasant nor fair - it isn't hard to report someone for use of the word "Tip.it" or "RuneHQ", but I haven't heard of any punishments being handed down for it. But if you can figure out a way for us to get our name out there without it breaking the rules whatsoever, let me know! joking.gif

Yeah, some of these events are great. But it's not as easy as it sounds - in order to do Trawler, you should have at least 10 people; in order to do Pest Control, you'd need about 30-40 (going off of the average level here as 75), and you'd need at least 15 people to do Castle Wars. I remember the last time we tried a CW event, and almost no one showed up. Bitterly disappointing for me since that was our second event of the year. oopd.gif

I'm glad you liked our Trawler. I'll work on getting another organized.

I'd say more than half of our actives play World of Warcraft or just don't login to RS anymore. Besides that, every time we have a drop party I will always see more than twice our number of actives online than I would at any event. Period.

I'm working on rectifying the drop party situation though; I'm going to force it to not be so one-sided. Let it be known that I won't announce the next drop party at all.

Cafebcs, what good is any event that gets poor attendance? You can think of it like a pot-luck; if a ton of people show up, you're going to get a ton of food; if a literal handful shows up, you're better off cooking for yourself. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say here.

Actually, I would strongly recommend against any legitimate fansite using Google to advertise. A vast majority of the cheating/RWT sites that I've reported to Jagex I only found out about due Google displaying ads for said sites on otherwise legitimate (usually at any rate) fansites.

It would not mater if lots of poeple showed up if we went to specialized worlds, heck there could be only 4 of us and we could still have a great time, get what im saying?

We dont need an event everyweek, maybe one every 2 weeks

I suggest simple get togethers. If one of our members is training, why not a few more of up join that person?

They wont be official events but it'll get more of the runewebbers together. This could also be a way to advertise in a sence.

I think we need more interesting advertisements, remember the advertising competition?

events are hard things to hold, all you have to say is, this is the time we are getting together, this is the world we will be in, and this is where we are going.

Cw's, pc, barbarian assult, fishing tralwery arint hard events to get under way, because you only need a few poeple to come for it to be fun, because that world already has tons of poeple on it as it is, thats the reason for specialized worlds!

Well I don't exactly have a list of every event ever hosted printed out and in my hand, but I do think it's possible that the types of events aren't helping. If every event is a minigame, boss monster hunt, or wildy fight, people are going to get bored with it quickly. It's basically a constant rehash of stuff people have already done a hundred times over both in groups and by themselves. That can tend to give people the feeling that the events aren't creative or significant enough to warrant their attention.

How about trying some events that don't rely on minigames, boss monsters, or the wilderness. Try some thing that could be done in F2P. I know simply having an event in F2P can give a boost to attendance for that event no matter what kind it is. Perhaps things like fire fests, freak trains, attack of the nulls/clones (<- that one I'm a little iffy on), find me's, scavenger hunts, area NPC annihilation, or maybe make up a story that would fit into RuneScape and have the event further/resolve the story.

There's all kinds of things you could do if you're willing to think outside the box. Hell, I once thought up an event inspired by the movies Resident Evil and Lethal Weapon 2. It was an F2P undead hunt with us all in guard uniforms which I dubbed "Demise of the Undead". I already hosted it elsewhere so it may not be such a great idea to reuse it, but that was just to give an idea of what could be done. If you already do hold events like that and I simply haven't noticed, why not more often?

Anyways, these are just suggestions, but I think it could help (if only a little).
