Note that these aren't set in stone; these are just some things that you should keep in mind before and after you make a post here.

--

Before I go any further, let me let you know a bit about myself. I've been a member of this particular community for four or so years. I have a pretty decent handle on what is and what is not acceptable in any community, let alone RuneWeb.

First and foremost, RuneWeb is a RuneScape FANSITE. We are not related to Jagex in any way except as an admirer of their game. Do not post anything related to passwords, recoveries, hackings, official forum-related stuff or ingame problems. We cannot and will not help you.

Next, as unfortunate as this game's economy is, we will not give you any free money. Asking anyone that is the fastest way to earn a flame war (which will inevitably lead to more actions being taken). Asking for tips to gain money is nice but since someone is working on an unofficial money guide, then we'd ask that you use/post in that instead of in the forums.

Thirdly, make sure that you are in the right forum. Each forum has a minor description of what's supposed to go on in that forum. So, if you have an awesome story to post and it is RuneScape related, post it in the Story Section. If it's relating to a political debate, it goes in Off-Topic. If you're talking about a RuneScape quest or something like that, RS Chat. If you're starting up a business or want to sell something, use the appropriate Marketplace forums.

Our RuneWeb signatures are found on http://www.runeweb.net/index.php?page=rw-sig. There, and ONLY there will you find the true instructions on how to make use of them. Posts that pertain to the location of such things (especially posts embedded in another thread), including but not limited to why you do not appear in them, are nothing but spam and make the moderators very angry.

There's nothing wrong with being helpful on these forums; in fact that's one of the few things we have that others don't. But just because someone is saying “PM me for any help” in their signature doesn't make them a moderator, nor does it give anyone the right to call them a “wannabe mod”. They're doing a hell of a lot more by saying they're available for help rather than someone saying you can't help at all.

If you're going to make a goal thread, none of us will ever stop you. The only problem is that if you're nowhere near your goal (i.e.: a level 40 crafter going for 90 crafting), you're doing nothing but spamming and giving the moderators headaches. If you're not close to your goal, DON'T POST. If you're not actively going to update your goal, SAY SO. Lastly, it is not a bump if you're updating your own goals.

Finally, if you want to go anywhere online (either here at this community, another community or RuneScape), you MUST start using proper English. While there are two distinct variations of this (British and Americanised), make sure that you spell your words out entirely. Statements that include any form of leetspeak or “txt talk” are often times frowned upon, and as a productive member of any community you should endeavour to better your vocabulary. The browser Firefox, in version 2.0.x has an automatic spellchecker; you can download Firefox at getfirefox.com.

That's all I have to say on the matter. Have fun posting here at RuneWeb!

I have released that typeing in full words, and using puncuation effects what people think of you, and how they act towards you.

A very good post. Hopefully this clears up some issues for people. I also think it is a good idea to pin this, so I shall do that.

I advise people to read the entire post.

Good little intro for those who are, shall I say, forum challenged...grammatically challenged, if I may. I am not saying I'm a genius, but I can get my point across with just about everyone understanding what I mean. I think everyone here should have to read it...I wish we could make them...

/me thinks of ways to forcefully make people read it...

I'd like to add:

Always search before you post. Almost 3 out of 10 chances are theres already topics just like yours. The RS Chat and Discussions bored is full of pointless topics that are just repeats.
